How does Mounjaro work?
Mounjaro belongs to a class of drugs known as GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonists. It works by:
-
Reducing appetite.
-
Slowing down food leaving the stomach, which helps you feel fuller for longer.
-
Enhancing insulin release to help control blood sugar levels.
-
Mounjaro should be used in conjunction with a healthy diet and exercise to achieve optimal long lasting weight loss results.
How do I take Mounjaro?
Mounjaro is administered as a subcutaneous injection (under the skin) once a week.
It is injected into your abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. Injection sites should be changed each week to avoid irritation.
Regular medical check-ups are essential to monitor progress and manage any side effects.
Side Effects:
Mounjaro slows gastric emptying, which may affect absorption of some oral medications, particularly oral contraceptive pills and oral HRT. Adjustments may need to be made by your GP to switch contraceptives and HRT delivery prior to starting Mounjaro.

Gastrointestinal issues: Nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation, and stomach pain.
-
Low blood sugar: especially if used alongside some drugs used in diabetes
-
Decreased appetite: This is part of the medication’s effect, but it may lead to excessive weight loss in some individuals.
